American Jews: From Battlefields to Baseball Fields

Tuesdays, October 8, 15, 22 and 29, 10:30 a.m. to noon

Course Description: This course will explore those Jews who have proudly served and defended America. We will then learn about the Jewish influence on professional baseball. We will discuss the amazing Hall of Fame homerun hitter and Hall of Fame pitcher, as well as the catcher who was a spy.

Facilitator: Barry Steelman graduated from the Naval Academy and is a Vietnam veteran. After law school he clerked for the Chief Judge of Maryland’s Federal Court. He spent over thirty years as a trial attorney litigating complex civil cases. He taught law school and published in both the Baseball Hall of Fame’s “Memories and Dreams,” and the Naval Academy’s “Shipmate.” He is on the National Advisory Board of the American Veterans Center.
